Premier League Matchday 4: Manchester Derby Shock! 10-Man City Beat United as Brighton Smash Coventry 5-0

Manchester City edged Manchester United while Brighton produced a five-goal win over Coventry on September 13.

Premier League Matchday 4 delivered two very different results on September 13. Brighton & Hove Albion produced a ruthless 5–0 victory away to Coventry City before Manchester City claimed a dramatic 1–0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The Manchester derby became the headline event of the day, with City playing much of the match with 10 men after Phil Foden was sent off in the first half. Despite that setback, Erling Haaland scored the decisive goal and City held on for three points.

Brighton Run Riot Against Coventry

Brighton produced the most emphatic result of the day, crushing Coventry City 5–0 away from home. The Seagulls controlled the match and repeatedly exposed gaps in Coventry's defence.

Charalampos Kostoulas opened the scoring before Malick Yalcouyé and Yasin Ayari also found the net. Pascal Groß converted from the penalty spot, while Lewis Dunk added one of the highlights of the afternoon with a spectacular long-range strike.

Haaland Decides a Wild Manchester Derby

The Manchester derby was far more dramatic. Manchester City were reduced to 10 men when Phil Foden was sent off in the first half after an incident involving Bruno Fernandes.

United were unable to turn their numerical advantage into a goal, and City eventually found the breakthrough through Erling Haaland.

Haaland's goal initially faced an offside check, but VAR confirmed that Patrick Dorgu's position played the striker onside. The goal stood and gave City a 1–0 lead.

United pushed for an equaliser and hit the woodwork twice, but City's defence held firm to secure a huge derby victory.

City's Resilience Steals the Spotlight

The result was especially impressive given City's early numerical disadvantage. Playing with 10 men for much of the match, they remained organised and eventually found the moment that mattered.

The victory moved City to 12 points from four matches, level on points with Arsenal at the top, while United remained on four points after four games.
