The opportunity could hardly be bigger for Shelton. An American man has not won a Grand Slam singles title since Andy Roddick captured the 2003 US Open, and no American man has lifted the men's singles trophy in New York since then.

Now Shelton has one final obstacle: the world's No. 1 seed, a reigning Grand Slam champion and a player who has beaten him in every previous meeting.
